  14. Fourscore and seven years ago
  15. our fathers brought forth on
  16. this continent a new nation
  17. conceived in liberty and 
  18. dedicated to the proposition 
  19. that all men are created equal.
  20.   
  21. Now we are engaged in a great
  22. civil war testing whether that
  23. nation, or any nation so 
  24. conceived and so dedicated, can
  25. long endure.  We are met on a 
  26. great battlefield of that war.  
  27. We have come to dedicate a 
  28. portion of that field as a 
  29. final resting-place for those 
  30. who here gave their lives that
  31. that nation might live.  It is
  32. altogether fitting and proper
  33. that we should do this.

  35. But, in a larger sense, we
  36. cannot dedicate, we cannot
  37. consecrate, we cannot hallow
  38. this ground.  The brave men,
  39. living and dead, who struggled
  40. here have consecrated it far
  41. above our poor power to add or
  42. detract.  The world will
  43. little note nor long remember
  44. what we say here, but it can
  45. never forget what they did
  46. here.

  48. It is for us the living rather
  49. to be dedicated here to the
  50. unfinished work which they who
  51. fought here have thus far so
  52. nobly advanced.  It is rather
  53. for us to be here dedicated to
  54. the great task remaining before
  55. us -- that from these honored
  56. dead we take increased devotion
  57. to that cause for which they
  58. gave the last full measure of
  59. devotion -- that we here highly
  60. resolve that these dead shall
  61. not have died in vain, that
  62. this nation under God shall
  63. have a new birth of freedom,
  64. and that government of the
  65. people, by the people, for the
  66. people shall not perish from
  67. the earth.
